About EDITdirect

Customer controlled print and web publishing and content management
EDITdirect is a suite of online directory content management software. It facilitates swift multi-user editing and proofing of entries in directories, catalogues and brochures for organisations wishing to publish information about products, services and offers. Currently it is being used to power FIDICdirect.

The system allows publishers to put the responsibilities of updating in the hands of the participants whilst retaining full editorial control and managing online publication direct from their own desktops. It has sophisticated entry management control and version control. Publishers can see when changes to entries are made, why they were made and who made them. EDITdirect has a built-in indexing system that can be updated and changed by the publisher to suit changing needs. It will also allow the creation of a print file for commercial printing.

Any professional institution, trade association or club could use EDITdirect to both track and promote its members. It can be easily adapted for use by organisations to manage membership fees and other data about members. Commercially, it can be used by directory publishers to drastically reduce the cost of data acquisition, editing, proofing and publishing.

If you would like to use this exceptional content management service to power a directory on your website please visit www.editdirect.net or contact us.

Core database
The core database provides a structure and search facility across a number of different tables or groups of characteristics for a single entity eg a company's products, services and locations; a resort's climate, social and historic characteristics, a hotel's facilities, offers and services. The search facility allows for specific characteristics to be selected which allows a more comparative and detailed response to the customer than provided by keyword search.

Web input
The web input module allows multiple input of data directly over the Internet. In other words, individual hotel managers, for example, would be able to update information and offers about their own hotel. Full control remains in the hands of the editors from their desks. The system also accommodates directory entries of different sizes and characteristics.

Editorial system
The editorial system allows editing to be carried out by the editorial team after data has been entered by others. Rights can be assigned to, say, a marketing director to agree content before it goes live. Alternatively, in a commercial application, the publisher takes control of what is published and what is not.

quicklinks

Proofing module
The proofing module allows users to check how the entry will look in either web or print format after inputting the data - they can then go back and change the information as many times as they like until they are happy to submit it to the editor for publication.

quicklinks

Version control
Each entry has a version number assigned to it each time it is published. Previous versions may be accessed/published should the need arise.

quicklinks

Entry management
The entry management system provides the publisher of a commercial directory/catalogue with information about when entries are made, what kind they are and how much they cost. Invoices are created automatically and can be sent by e-mail.

quicklinks

Web publishing
This system creates static HTML pages from the data in the database and publishes them on the Internet in the format to suit the design of any website. The format would need to be customised to suit each website.

quicklinks

Print publishing system
The print publishing system will allow the preparation of commercial quality print files for subsequent printing. Using one database for both online and print publishing will provide significant cost savings.

Picture publishing module
This module will allow pictures (and other objects) to be uploaded into the database so that they can be placed into standard directory/catalogue/brochure pages. It is an upgraded version of previously-developed functionality using new software to handle the storage, version control and recovery of a large number of memory hungry images. This could suit a holiday tour company for example.

Customer registration and e-mail
The registration form can be completed by participants. It can accommodate names addresses, contact details and any particular interests which can, in turn, be used to e-mail special offers to groups with a similar profiles or interests.
