| Company news articles Innovative company-wide training event for GibbConsultancy GIBB is running a company-wide training event for its administrative and support staff to coincide with Administrative Professionals Week in April. The Business Forum Training Event will be held at the company’s York and Reading offices to allow maximum attendance from staff across the UK. The event has been set up to acknowledge the critical roles played by non-technical staff, and to initiate a more structured training scheme for support staff. The event will provide opportunities for delegates to participate in workshops, network with colleagues from regional offices and gain access to key information. Having recently gained Investors in People status, the event is the company’s latest initiative in its commitment to developing all of its staff, recognizing the value of their development from the individual’s point of view as well as from the business perspective. Training sessions and workshops will cover subjects such as effective time management, finance for non-finance staff and assertiveness skills. In addition, speakers from local Technical Colleges and Universities join in the seminars on NVQs and career progression. Peter Brettell, GIBB’s chief executive said, “Historically, the construction industry has focused on its technical professionals. However, as markets and technology have developed, the ‘them and us’ scenario has become increasingly outdated. Today, the roles of technical and support staff are interwoven, and I am sure that training events such as this are the way forward to ensure that all of our staff feel valued and are able to play their part in realising the company’s overall objectives.” Administrative Professionals Week is an annual international event, and is an opportunity for businesses to acknowledge their support staff by providing training through seminars, continuing education and networking schemes. The event has been co-ordinated through the company’s PA Forum – a group set up to extend communications internally between operating groups and the management team, and externally with clients and partners. Leanne Beacham, a key member of the Forum, commented, “We have been delighted by the positive response received from across the company. This will be the first of many such events, and its relevance to the company’s success is demonstrated by the level of support received from our management team.”
